Research shows that using Instagram could help people achieve their healthy eating or weight loss goals. Researchers found that Instagram can make tracking food intake fun, because posting photos is more interesting than writing it down in a journal. Add to that the fact that, at dinner with friends, snapping a photo of your plate and posting it is more socially acceptable than taking out your food diary. The 16 women in the study added that having an image of their food made it more real – and kept them honest about what they were eating. And because it’s possible to create multiple accounts on Instagram, you can choose a specific community to share your progress with, one that doesn’t have to include all of your friends and family.
